In the 2016 Berlin venture capital report, Technologiestiftung Berlin presents the current developments in Berlin’s VC market, focussing on the resulting opportunities for technology and business development in Berlin.
One target of VC activity in Berlin is the information and communications sector (ICT). For example, in 2015 around 60 per cent of the VC investment in Berlin (€1,210 million) went to this sector, which includes IT consulting, software development, data processing, hosting and ICT device repair. The figures indicate that ICT is much more significant in Berlin than in the remaining federal states. Fintech and mobile services, the current growth sectors, are also growing rapidly in Berlin. Around three-fourths of total VC (€76 million) invested in mobile services in 2015 was targeted at Berlin and the local fintech sector received 43 per cent of the total investment.
