How can data help make relevant information transparent and accessible to everyone? Together with the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH), we are exploring this question through our approach to a Post-COVID data model. It serves as a concrete use case for the Data Institute Challenge of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community (BMI).

Berlin gärtnert makes the city’s gardening landscape visible – from neighborhood plots to school gardens. The interactive map shows where Berliners create green spaces and which open datasets are available for new ideas.

How can artificial intelligence help to digitize administration in order to make politics more transparent and democratic tools more accessible? This is what the AI tool Parla is researching. Using a large language model, Parla makes tens of thousands of written inquiries searchable - and aims to make the administration's knowledge management more efficient and transparent.

With Stadtlabor2Go, CityLAB Berlin, together with Mönchengladbach and Wiesbaden, is developing a model for citizen-centered digitalization. In local city labs, methods are tested, knowledge is shared, and administration is reimagined – with scientific guidance and designed to be transferable to other municipalities.

Traffic flow, air quality, digital administration – data is essential for Berlin as a smart city. Yet often it remains scattered and underused. The Data Hub Berlin, a central urban data platform, is designed to change that.
